Message to all Teenagers!

Kids, you shouldn't give out any personal information of yourself online to someone you don't know. You may never know if they're an online predator and something bad may occur. So for all you teenagers who have myspace, twitter, facebook, friendster, yahoo, aim, etc. don't add or talk to any one that you don't know for your own safety. Tell others also not to do anything without having parent permission or if you know that it's safe. If your unsure, just don't do it. So remember when you are on the internet try your best to only talk to people that you know.If people try to add you or talk to you that you don't know then delete them but if they just keep trying to talking to you immediately tell an adult ! There are some perverts in this world and the guy/girl that you are talking to might be one !So be smart and do yourself a favor!

Amy's Story

This is the website we had looked up of an article related to Internet Safety, http://www.netsmartz.org/news/amystory.htm

Summary:
Basically what had occurred was that a 15 year old girl named Amy had asked her mother, Sara if she could sign up for internet service at home. Sara had said that Amy had already made an email and had been going online at the public library and at school. Amy had met this guy named Bill in an online chatroom and she had many personal conversations with this man. He had lured her into meeting him, and he told her things like he was in love with her and he faked that he was sympathetic for her problems and all. She fell for all of it and she went to meet him. Her mother had called police and contacted the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). She had Bill's address and they sent a detective to investigate the man's home. He had seen a man and a girl exit a taxi, and they had to convince Amy to come home and they wouldn't press charges on Bill until she agreed to go home. 3 weeks had past and a man had come over to Sara and Amy's home. Amy had snuck out of the house and Bill had assaulted her in a motel in their home town. Detectives and polices were spying on them and had approached them at the bus station. Bill was convicted and sentenced to a year term in federal prison. Bill was released in April 2001 to the United States Probation Office where he was placed on probation for three years.

Our Personal Experience with Unsafe Internet Practices

There are many experiences I have had with unsafe internet practices. But I will only tell a story on one that I remember well. One day when I was researching on the internet and I was on my myspace also, 2 unusual events had occurred. I had been researching on a topic of pimples for my advanced technology class and I had been looking for pictures to put on my keynote. I tried searching 'Vanessa Hudgens Pimples' but I had accidently just typed in Vanessa Hudgens and come to find out there were many unappropriate pictures of her that really bothered me. So instead I searched up Miley Cyrus. I found appropriate pictures finally ^__^ Aha. Anyways, I went on a break to go on myspace. I had a new friend request. It was this guy who was around his 30's and he asked if I would like to be friends, so I said "Sure, why not." Then, he had told me that he would like to meet me ALONE at a park so we could do some specific things. I then became so afraid I deleted him and never ever add people I don't know. A lesson well learned (: What was very ironic though, was that the next day I was watching a rerun of Degrassi and then it was the episode where the girl talks to this online predator he faked his age and everything and then he went to her house and was talking to her and stuff. It freaked me out, but at least her sister had called police and had him arrested before he could attempt anything. This told me that I should NEVER add people I don't know because bad things may happen.
